Canada Sends Something Strange to Burbank’s CIA – LA Weekly

Canadian TV stars and world-class mentalist duo The Sentimentalists (Chris Mysterion and Steffi Kay) brought their acclaimed magic/sideshow/burlesque show Something Strange to the CIA in Burbank. The sold-out show featured amazing performers from both Canada and USA.

Burlesque legend Mosh brought down the house with her fan dance, while Kali Von Wunderkammer, creator of The Southern Sideshow Hootenanny, did two burlesque sets — one with a bed of nails and the other on a stage of broken glass. Cecil the Sad Clown, winner of “Master of Comedy” in the 2016 Burlypicks Nationals and breakout contestant on America’s Got Talent, drew a chicken out of his (ahem) pants. Rounding out the burlesque performers was Canadian superstar Paige Turner (known as the Painted Lady, Paige is Canada’s most tattooed burlesque performer).

On the magic front, The Sentimentalists did three sets, each one crazy cool. I honestly could not even begin to guess how they do the things they do. Canadian magicians were the only magicians in the house on Saturday night, with Chris Turchi (CHRYSTERIOUS) doing some light ball play and Brandon David reading minds and throwing cards.

Something Strange is a monthly show in Canada, and we can only hope that here in again and again.
