Hidden behind a bakery on King St West is a speakeasy. Hidden in this speakeasy behind a secret panel is a corridor. A corridor that leads to wonder. Known as Coffee Champagne and Oysters it’s one of the hippest spots in Toronto for an after work cocktail or party.
This exclusive corridor leads to two rooms; One room hosts a cabaret act, sideshow performer, or a magician. Room number two has me ready to read your mind behind the curtain.
Through the night select patrons are invited into the back room to experience my mentalism in its most intimate form. My room holds 8 people at most, but it’s these small groups that are most intimate and allow me to get really into their heads.
One night a sceptical gentleman who worked in finance challenged me to tell him the name of his partner. The guy thought he had me, but after some time I wrote a name on a card and let him hold it. I know far too well that people may lie if I get it correct and say it first. He announced his partners name, Ginger, and then looked at the card.
Pandemonium ensued and three weeks later I was at their home for a private event. Ginger was most impressed.
Mentalism is the last frontier of magic because it’s always possible the mentalist has a power. I use five senses to create the idea of a sixth, and I have always changed the biggest skeptic into a believer, even for a few minutes of disbelief and wonder.
